Stephen Pritchard

Having always been drawn to clay and pottery, Steve settled on a pottery class at a local school some 50 years ago. His work has meant frequent moves to live in the UK and Europe, making it difficult for formal studies in pottery, so his skills were largely self taught.

In the late 1980s Steve attended a residential course at West Dean. This transformative experience with a professional potter, Eric, Stockel, inspired Steve deeply and he attended a class run by Andrew McGarva at Wobage Farm  in 1988 to 89. Wobage was the home and workplace of Michael and Shiela Casson. This contact was a major influence on Steve's pottery.

After returning to the UK in 2003, Steve enrolled again at Wobage for a course with residential potter Patia Davis, and later at an evening class with Jeremy Steward to do salt glaze.

Steve's work now has a beautiful rustic style with earthy tones. HHe often uses interesting patterns, created with intention, or by serendipity of the ash when the pieces are fired.
